should i purchase a package for the theme parks?

Hi David! When you book a vacation to Walt Disney World, you can purchase the parts of your trip separately, or you can book a package that includes your hotel, theme park tickets, and if desired, dining. I often do not choose a vacation package, because I try to shop around and find the best price for each component of my vacation. I can usually find discounted resort rooms by checking the Special Offers page of the Disney website, and I like to compare the cost of purchasing park tickets directly from Disney to buying them from other sources, such as AAA, or a ticket broker, such as Undercover Tourist. Also, the packages often have stricter cancellation and payment policies than room-only reservations.

The downside to booking the components of your trips separately, however, is that you're not eligible to purchase the Disney Dining Plan, which is only available with vacation packages. The Dining Plan is very popular with many guests because food can be expensive at Disney World, and the Dining Plan allows you to prepay for meals at a discount. Currently, on the Special Offers page, you'll find an offer to receive the Dining Plan for FREE when you purchase a vacation package! Determining whether a package is the best deal for you depends on many factors, including the type of resort in which you wish to stay, the size of your family, and whether the Dining Plan fits the way your family likes to eat. The current package special with Free Dining is generally a real money-saver if you're staying in a value or moderate resort. The best way to determine if a vacation package is the best deal for you is to price your vacation out both ways and compare the costs.
