My ? what do you prefer if you are AP holder, the DDE card or DDP. And also I hear the DDE charge an automatic 18% gratuity to total no matter size of party, so wouldn't that decrease discount of 20% to 2%. Help! Can't decide. THANKS, Jennifer, NC

    Jennifer,

I am an annual passholder and have chosen to use the Disney Dining Experience Card rather than the Disney Dining Plan. You can read a complete discussion of my choice HERE. And Bret answers a slightly different, but related question HERE.

To address your specific question about the gratuity, I have to tell you that your logic is off. Yes, there is an 18% gratuity added to meals purchased with the DDE card. But you also need to tip your server when you use the Disney Dining Plan (in years past the tip had been included on the Dining Plan, but this is no longer the case). Most people on the Disney Dining Plan, pay an 18% tip, based on the non-plan cost of the meal. With the DDE, that meal cost is reduced by 20%, so you are still getting a substantial savings. There is a much more cogent explanation of this HERE.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
