What's the practical difference between Disney Dollars & Disney gift cards - does one have advantages over the other as far as use, or is it just that the Disney Dollars allow kids to keep track like real money vs a receipt showing the card's balance?

    Hi Suzanne,

The Disney Dollars are just cuter.  Each denomination has a different Disney Character represented on it and overall they are more fun than a gift card.  I first used Disney Dollars in the late 90s.  At that time gift cards weren't nearly as popular as they are now.  I'm personally glad Disney still makes them.

The main difference is that you get change in cash when you use the Disney Dollars.  Each purchase on the gift card gets debited and the remaining value stays on the card.

Both the gift cards and the Disney Dollars can get lost or stolen and there is no way of getting back the value.  That is the biggest disadvantage of using either.
