I am planning to take my 9 year old son, with Down syndrome, to Disney next year. Would love to stay at the Little Mermaid at the Art of Animation but those bldgs seem far from the entrance. any suggestions? places to go? things to do? thankyou.

Hi Luz! The newest Disney resort, Art of Animation has become extremely popular. It offers a fresh take on some of Disney's most popular movies with bigger then life decor and bright wonderful cheery colors.

If the Little Mermaid section of this resort is your choice I wouldn't worry about the distance. There is a pool located among the three buildings and many great sidewalks leading to the main building with the food court etc. It will only take a few minutes to reach any part of the resort although it looks huge. You can also look into the family suites of the other sections and compare the cost with the added amenities to see if those rooms would work even better for you and your family.

If possible I would try to visit all four parks, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Each park offers exciting attractions and things to see and do. Wheel chairs can be rented at each if you find the need.. Check in at Guest Services in each park to pick up a guide for Disabilities which will discuss each attraction from access to sounds to lights that might affect guests with special needs. Talk to them about getting a Guest Assistance Card. If your son has trouble standing in longer lines this card can be shown to the cast members at the attractions and they will assist you to wait in alternative locations. It is not a "go to the front of the line" pass so please be sure and get Fast Passes when possible to shorten your waits.  The Guest Relations cast members can help you plan your day with suggestions for your son. They will also be able to tell you where there will be character meet and greets that might be on interest to you. You can also pick up a Times Guide that will show when and where the parades and entertainment will be during that particular day.

Don't miss the park parades and firework shows when possible. And don't forget some dining reservations at the great Disney restaurants!
