Planning on visiting 5/28-6/3 what will the weather be like? 1st trip was 1st week of Oct09 with record temps. DD5 recently diagnosed (3month) with Type 1 any suggestions? Thanks for all your help!!!

Hi, Angela!  You'll be looking at temps in the upper 80s, and the humidity is starting to increase by June, so you may have days that feel much warmer.

I am assuming your daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes?  Your best ally in vacation planning - especially with a new diagnosis - is your physician.  Your doctor is better equipped to give you all of the medical advice you'll need.  From a practical standpoint, bring double all of the supplies you'll need.  I always brought extra test strips, extra glucose tablets, extra insulin, etc.  And don't put all your eggs in one basket!  My first trip ever to Disney World as a diabetic, I packed my supplies in my luggage, and my bag got lost!  It turned up the next day, but it was a valuable lesson in pack half of your stuff in one bag, and put the rest in another (your carry on).  That way, you won't be without anything you need.

If you are staying in a value resort, ask them to have a refrigerator brought to your room (ask in advance) so you can store medical supplies.  Also, housekeeping can supply you with a sharps container, so you don't have to worry about disposal of lancets.  If you are going to carry insulin with you, I highly recommend the FRIO refrigeration pack - it keeps your insulin cool all day in the Florida sun.

Let the restaurants know in advance that you have special dietary needs, and they can prepare foods or recommend foods that will work with the diet your daughter follows.  They can also get you things like sugar free desserts so she doesn't feel like she's missing out.

Label everything with your name, don't stress, have her test regularly, and go have a wonderful time!
