We're planning to visit WDW in FEb and plan to make reservations at some character meals 180 days in advance. Do we need our room booked that early also? We were planning on doing the dining plan. Do we put any money down when we reserve? Thanks!

You do not need a room reservation to make dining reservations. Anyone, whether they are staying at a Disney resort or off-site can make an dining reservation 180 days in advance. For the vast majority of dining reservations, you do not need to make any sort of deposit. There are, however, a few dining experiences where you will need to leave a credit card and for which there will be penalties assessed for a no-show at the restaurant. Some of the dining experiences which require a credit card to hold the reservation include Cinderella's Royal Table, the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, the California Grill, and the Spirit of Aloha Luau. If you're on the dining plan, you will still need to leave a credit card to reserve these meals, but the charge will not be applied if you pay with your dining credits.
