Planning 1st visit in Oct 2011, traveling with DH, DD(10), and DS(3). 7 full days in the parks w/o hopper. Debating between AKL and WL both with standard or pool views, any advise?

Hi KD! Two of my favorite resorts - if you threw Beach Club into the ring, I wouldn't have known how to answer! ;) As it is now, this is still a tough choice. Ultimately, I think  it is up to whichever your family thinks will be a better fit, but I will give you my thoughts on it.

Wilderness Lodge is an amazing resort - you get that comfy, homey feeling the minute you walk through the doors. It smells wonderful, you could hang out in the lobby relaxing for hours, and the rooms and pool area themselves are just great. If you think you'll be visiting the Magic Kingdom a lot, this would be the better choice, because you can take a boat directly to Magic Kingdom from here. Here a pool view room may actually allow you to see Bay Lake and the nightly Electrical Water Pageant as well, which is always a fun plus.

Animal Kingdom Lodge has that same comforting feeling when you walk in the lobby with more wonderful scents of Boma and Jiko wafting up the stairs. Of course the major difference is the theme of being in a luxurious African safari resort - complete with the animals. The great part about AKL is even without having a savanna view room, you can still enjoy seeing the animals from the various observation spots throughout the resort. If you dine over at Sanaa in the Kidani Village side, you can see a whole separate savanna right from your table.

Since the rooms and amenities of both resorts are pretty similar, you only need to decide which atmosphere your family would enjoy more. African adventure, or Pacific splendor! Of course, there is also the option of splitting your stay with half in one resort and half in the other. ;) It would solve the problem of deciding and let you experience two amazing resorts on your first visit!

I hope you have a truly magical vacation and that it's the first of many future visits! If you have any other specific questions about the resorts or anything else, please come back and ask us! ~Suzannah
