Hi, we are planning a visit with 2.5 y/o DD and 5 y/o DS. Would they enjoy the luau at the Polynesian? We will be staying at a different deluxe resort. What are some other activities we could do in/ around the polynesian in the late afternoon?

    Julie,

I am a big fan of the Polynesian. It has ambiance, a fun buzz, and of all the resorts at Walt Disney World, I think it makes you feel transported to another place better than any other.

I took my two girls to the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at about the exact same ages the first time. Overall we had a a good time. The kids liked the theming and the show's plot is light enough that they kept up with it. The overall spectacle of it, with hula dancing and fire juggling among other things was enough to really keep their attention. Not an easy feat in our family!

The food is just OK, but they did a good job of getting my kids things they would eat.

BOTTOM LINE: I think it is a good choice for you.

As for other activities at the Polynesian, mostly the fun is in just being there. In the afternoon I would recommend starting in the lobby and visiting the kids area to the front left of the lobby as you enter from the port cochere. They are better staffed than others, and often will lead children through some native Hawaiian crafts. Also, their store (BouTIKI) has some of the more unique salable items, so do a quick shopping trip! After that go to Captain Cooks (their quick service restaurant) and grab a dole whip. With your sweet treat in hand, tour the lobby and it's central water feature, then walk the grounds down to the beach. There is also a marina, so boat rentals are an option.

A final possibility is to check with the concierge to see what is going on that day. While they seem to be held mostly in the morning and evenings, there are often some activities in the afternoon. For instance they typically host Hula Dancing lessons around 3:45 pm most (but not all) afternoons.

Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
