    Hi Michelle,

I checked with my fellow Panelists regarding your question, as I book my own airfare when traveling to Disney. Here is the input from 3 different Moms, hope you find it helpful!

Ritzy says that unless you are are doing a land/sea vacation, the air is booked for the same day the ship departs. In addition, you won't get the flight info. until about thirty days out. She books her own airfare when she Cruises now (except in the winter), so she can have some say in when which flights she gets. One advantage of booking air through DCL is that if you miss the boat due to flight delays or cancellations, DCL will fly you to the next port of call. That's why she would book air through DCL again if cruising in the winter months (think Northeaster!). In general, she recommends flying to Orlando at least one day before the ship leaves port, but preferebly two days or more in advance.

Beth says she always books her airfare separately because she can find it cheaper and control her time. She goes a day or two earlier and then heads to the ship around 1030. They also do not use Disney ground transportation because they find it cheaper and more flexible to use a personal limo like happy limo. She adds that, working for an airline, she has seen customers vacations ruined because of weather and not being able to get out. While airlines can try to move you to avoid a storm it may not always work out. That is why you want to head down a day or two early just in case.

Andi says: The only times she has flown using DCL's arrangements, they were not her preferred times or routes. She recommends rolling up your sleeves and doing your homework. It pays to price out and plan your vacation separately and then as a package to determine what's best for you!  Happy sailing!
