    Pam from VA Asked

planning a trip to Ft Wilderness in early April with the grandkids. I haven't been there since i was 11, any advice on must see things.

Pam, I am so excited to answer this question since I just returned from a ten day adventure in Fort Wilderness!  My son asked to stay in the cabins as it had been about 20 years since he had experienced all the fun.

Definitely get some Hoop De Doo reservations for dinner one night.  We took our 3 1/2 and 18 month grandsons and they loved it.  It is loud with lots of laughing and music so you never have to worry about "misbehaving" young ones!  There is also the Mickey's Backyard Barbecue that is held in this area that the kids love.  They have a live country western band and there will be lots of dancing with the characters.  Both dining experiences have some of the best fried chicken and barbecue ribs anywhere on property!

Definitely visit the Disney stables where the huge and beautiful draft horses call home.  You can visit about half the barn and stay as long as you wish.  Just outside this barn is the open area where many of the Disney ponies live including many who pull Cinderella's royal coach.  The little ones can even enjoy a pony ride during the day from this location.

Visit the settlement stores and don't forget that you can rent a water sprite or pontoon boat from the marina docks.  You can boat from here all the way over to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts so it is a great location for the boat rentals.

If you are staying in a cabin I suggest you rent a daily golf cart. It is pricey but you will find it is such a great convenence during your stay.

Last but not least, you can reserve a carriage or wagon ride as well as rent some fishing gear to try your luck in the waterways through-out the area.  Don't forget the nightly campfire and sing-a-longs followed by outdoor movies.  And of course there are two pools, bike rentals, and archery to keep you busy all day long if you aren't in the parks.
