I am planning a trip to WDW for June 4-11, 2012 traveling with my 8 yr old son, mom, and gma (both mom and gma have diabeties) and I was wondering if there is a cart or motor scooter of some sort to rent or use during our visit. We will be on WDW land reso

Congratulations on your upcoming Disney trip.....just a few more months until the magic begins!

Every theme park at Walt Disney World has a limited number of wheel chairs and electric scooters available for daily rental. The prices for wheelchairs are about $12 a day or $10 a day if you choose to do a Length of Stay ticket. (This is not available during peak holiday times). The scooters rent for about $50 a day with a $20 refund deposit.

There is also a second option which many guests choose and that is to rent from a private company in the area. They will deliver to your resort hotel and pick up when you depart.  Two that I have heard about are walkermobility.com and CareMedicalEquipment.com.  When you go the private renting route it allows you to have the scooters and chairs anywhere on property including your resort as everything rented at the parks must stay in the parks and can't be brought back to the resort with you.  Since the parks have a limited number of rentals this also alleviates the risk of finding that the parks have run out when you arrive.  The Disney choices are all one size where you can personally select something that meets all your needs when going with a private company.

The negative about the electric scooters especially will be taking them on the Disney transportation of busses and boats.  It takes extra time to strap down the scooters and if you are not sitting in the wheelchairs they must be folded up completely. Some boats are not equipped for these things as well.

Above all please please have those using an electric scooter to practice before heading out for the first day. Make sure they are comfortable backing up and stopping as the crowds can make getting through different areas of the park challenging.
