We are planning a trip to WDW at the end of April. We are going to be staying at the Yacht Club with our extended family, 6 adults ages 60-30 and two children ages 3 & 6. Any suggestions to help make a large family of all ages happy? Preplanning etc.

    Hi Alison,

You're going to love the sophisticated elegance of Disney's Yacht Club Resort and its proximity to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios!

I believe the key to planning a successful Disney vacation for a large group of extended family is to sit down together before the trip and make a list of every person's fondest hopes for the vacation.  Everyone should contribute one or two things that he or she simply must experience at Walt Disney World in order for them to consider the trip a success.  Then, as you put together your master itinerary, you know that everyone's needs will be addressed.

If you haven't already done so, pick some great restaurants and call (407) WDW-DINE to make advance dining reservations.  It's harder to find tables for larger groups so advance dining reservations are important.  When we travel with a large group, we like to have one table service meal together on the night of our arrival and one on the last night of our trip.  That last meal turns out to be a great opportunity to reflect on the exciting happenings and wonderful memories we made during the vacation.

It's important to remember that you don't need to spend 24/7 together as a whole group during the trip.  Since you have a wide age range in your group, you can expect that not every attraction will appeal to everyone in your group.  That's ok!  Feel free to splinter off in small groups as necessary.  Just be sure to have everyone's cell phone and be clear as to when the group will reconvene.

And finally, don't forget to get at least one or two photos of the whole group while on vacation.  Those photos will become precious family keepsakes in the years to come.

Best wishes and let us know if we can provide you with any additional advice.
