We are planning a trip to Walt Disney World in the Fall. Our daughter turned 10 this year. Trying to decide about dining plan. If we don't get dining plan, does she still have to order off the adult menu at restaurants? She is, unfortunately, picky.

    Hi Holly,

This is one reason why my family did not use the Disney Dining Plan for a few years. My youngest was a picky eater and would not eat the adult meals at the restaurants. We did not want to eliminate some of our favorite restaurants because she would not eat an adult meal there but would eat the child's meal there.

While I totally understand Disney's philosophy that you are paying an adult ticket, you should have an adult meal. However, so many of my friends have children in the same situation that you and I have - a picky "tween". I would have loved to pre-pay part of my vacation or received free dining but it did not work out because of my daughter's eating. On the flip side, I know there are plenty of children under the age of nine who would love an adult meal because their palates are so expansive.

On the picky eater side, Disney was one place that really helped expand my children's palates. Select buffets-Boma, Tusker House and 1900 Park Fare or Cape May Cafe for dinner-have great options that you may not find at other restaurants. By sampling the items at these buffets, my daughters' learned to try new food items. Since there were kid friendly options as well, I was not paying for a second meal.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
