Mom and daughter on Expedition Everest

I am planning a trip for thrill seekers and one non thrill seeker who are hoping to stay together for the day. Is it possible to wait in line and have our Magic Bands scanned to use the pre selected Fast Passes but not actually ride the ride?

Hello, Angela, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

One of the best things about a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is that there is something for everyone! My husband and daughter are bigger thrill-seekers than I am, so we regularly run into the issue you’re describing. I definitely understand wanting to stay together as a group, but let me offer a couple of alternatives to using your FastPass+ reservation for an attraction you don’t intend to ride.

First of all, there is an option to exit before getting on some of the more thrilling attractions like Expedition Everest -- Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but this exit is designed more for people who change their minds at the last minute and typically require a Cast Member to escort you out. Instead, I would recommend you either wait for your party at the exit. Both Expedition Everest and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have excellent gift shops, and I often like to wander around and explore those if I’m waiting for my husband and daughter to finish the ride.

Another option (which is really what I would recommend) is to book a FastPass for a nearby attraction within the same time frame. This way the non thrill-seeker still gets to enjoy an experience while the thrill-seekers enjoy theirs. I like to use a single FastPass to meet Mickey and Minnie at Adventurers Outpost in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park while my husband and daughter ride Expedition Everest, for example. That way everyone wins! We just choose a rendezvous spot in between the two attractions to meet after we’re both finished.

I hope you get to experience everything you want to on your next Walt Disney World Resort vacation, Angela! Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help.
