I am planning a trip in 2017. I am a teacher and cannot take off time when I would like to visit. So my options are to go the week after Easter or during summer. My children will be 6 and 2. When would be best for us? I plan to stay 7-10 days.

    Hi Jessie,

My family visits Walt Disney World often during both of the times that you are considering - during Spring Break right around Easter, and over the summer. We do this also to coincide with my daughter's school schedule. We have fun at both times of year, and there are pros and cons to each. Let me share my experiences with you.

Spring Break right around Easter is typically a quite crowded time of year at Walt Disney World; however, we have found that we can mitigate this by planning ahead using Disney FastPass+ selections to choose some of the most popular rides. We also like to arrive at the theme parks early as crowds are lowest early in the morning. Spring Break is a nice time to visit because the weather is typically warm but not too hot. We also enjoy the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival that happens in spring each year.

My family also visits Walt Disney World during the summer. The summer can be less crowded than Spring Break as long as you avoid major holidays such as the Fourth of July. This is because while at Spring Break many schools are out over a one- or two-week period, during the summer, children have longer vacations and thus crowds are more spread out. I try to schedule as close to the beginning of school as possible. My daughter typically does not return to school until late August, and by the third week in August, many children already have returned to school and thus the crowds are lower. Of course, in the summer, the weather is hot. We beat the heat by again arriving at the theme parks early and leaving by midday to take a nap or dip in the pool, and we carry lots of water with us to stay hydrated.

Whichever time you decide to travel, please do let us know if you have any further questions, Jessie!
