Planning trip in Oct with DD (4) & DS (1). We plan on spending 2 days at MK and a day at each of the other parks. We're considering the Contemporary and WL. Do you have any other suggestions or prefer one of these resorts?

With lower temperatures and crowds, October is a wonderful time to visit WDW. In fact, our family's vacation is scheduled for the same month!

With most of your time being spent at the Magic Kingdom, staying close to that park is a great idea. While the Wilderness Lodge is favored by many guests and I wouldn't rule it out especially if it fits better in your budget, the Contemporary Resort will situate your family closer to the Magic Kingdom. In fact, it's only a walk (or monorail ride) away from the MK entrance.

The Contemporary Resort has larger rooms, Chef Mickey's character meals,  and a fun water splash area.

The Wilderness Lodge, however, is themed very well and would cause wide-eyed excitement upon arrival. Modeled after Old Faithful Inn, my heart tugs toward this resort but it might be because our family just returned from Yellowstone. Some rooms have bunk beds, there's a sandy beach with playground, and fun food at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

I think your decision depends on how much time you plan on spending at your resort, the size of room that you desire, your budget, and what amenities are important. Do you desire a great water play area?

Since your visit is relatively short, I would probably lean towards convenience and opt for the Contemporary. The resort is less-inspired but it is historical to WDW and you can't get any closer to the Magic Kingdom!
