We are planning a trip next year with our children. One of our twins (age 5) has a hearing aid. Is there is anything he will be prevented from doing in the parks due to his disability and if we can get assistance to make sure his experience is enjoyable?

    Hi Tali,

How fun to be planning a trip with your little ones! Your best course of action will be to stop by Guest Relations in each park and talk to them about your sons hearing disability. Ask them if there are specific recommendations that they have for you based on the attractions in that park and his needs.

You'll want to check out this page for Guests with Hearing Disabilities.  I'm not sure of the severity of your son's hearing loss, but there are several options that Disney makes available. Some of these are Handheld Captioning, and Assistive Listening Systems which are recommended for Guests with mild/moderate hearing loss.

As far as the shows, I'm not certain that your son would want to sit up front at the shows while wearing hearing aids. I say this because my brother, step-father and father-in-law all wear them and they have found the shows to be excessively loud. In fact, they find that they need to turn their devices down (or off) and sit more towards the back. The Disney shows are productions and do tend to be quite loud. If you are wearing hearing aids, some of the shows may bother you. Even without hearing aids to amplify, people often find them loud. One of my kids covers her ears at Fantasmic (even in the way back of the theater).

You could certainly stop by Guest Relations to talk to them about it, but I I would recommend that you try one of the shows (like the Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage or the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular). Based on the experiences of several of my family members, I truly believe your son is going to prefer to sit towards the middle or the back while wearing his hearing aids.

    Have a wonderful vacation,
