We are planning a trip in late May and would love to hear more about Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Also, how to get there?

    Hi Dianna,

As a girl who has spent her whole life in the northeast, Mickey's Backyard BBQ was more of a cultural experience than anything else.  The first element that is very different is that you need to find your own seat and you sit among the other guests attending.  Everyone sits together in long wooden picnic tables.  You get your own food that is set up buffet style.

The tables are set up around a dance floor and a accompanying stage.  Mickey and his friends come out on stage and do they a great show, much of which is set to country music.  I believe the characters are also dressed in country dancing outfits.  We were able to watch the entire show from our table.  We eat there with our friends who had a nine year old girl.  She absolutely loved it.  Her favorite part was when MIckey, Minnie and the whole gang came down on the dance floor and danced with all the kids.

The food is typical BBQ items, like ribs, hot dogs, baked beans.  If you go to Mickey's Backyard BBQ go for the show and the experience, not the food.  The food was mediocre and the beer and wine was not top notch shelf, but everything was all-you-care-to-enjoy.

It's difficult to tell you how to get there without knowing where you are coming from.  If you can get to the Magic Kingdom, you can take either a boat or a bus to Fort Wilderness.
