I am planning a trip for my family to spend my son's 5th birthday in Disney World. We will be going in early November. How is the crowds at that time of year? Also, is there anything special that we can do for his birthday, this will be his first trip.

    Hi Ashli,

Thanks for writing and happy (almost) birthday to your little boy!  First trips are extra magical, and birthday visits just take the cake!  As for how to make his experience super special, I suggest making reservations for a birthday character meal.  Chef Mickey's is my family's favorite spot to celebrate a birthday.  Be sure to book as early as possible (up to 180 days in advance) as it's very popular.  You can even add a cake to your celebration when you call 1-407-WDW-DINE.  Be sure to pick up a free birthday button for your son at Guest Relations at whichever park you visit first.  Have him wear it proudly throughout your trip.  You might also consider indulging your son in a pirate makeover at Pirate League at Magic Kingdom.  My boys have done this several times and loved the experience.

As for the time of year you are travelling, it should be lovely.  The summer crowds and heat and humidity will be gone, and you should have a wonderful vacation.  Epcot's International Food and Wine Festival runs through November 11th, and the park can get crowded on the weekends, so I'd plan your itinerary so that you visit Epcot on a weekday.

    Have a wonderful trip!
