planning trip end of Nov. w/party of 7 & 1 3-yr old. Staying in a villa. Is it more economical to forego dining plan & not worry about making reservations when we may not be able to sit together or just cook breakfast & dinner in & eat lu

Hi, Becky!  It is certainly going to be more economical to eat in your villa, as you can control the meals you are eating and the cost better than when you are dining out.  I would, however, caution you about planning all of your meals at the villa.  Especially if you are traveling with a large part and young children, the trip between theme park and resort can consume a lot of time and energy, and it may not be practical to do all of your meals at your resort.

I would say Walt Disney World does a great job trying to keep parties together, and the earlier you book, the better the chance is.  There are also numerous counter service locations and kiosks to grab a quick bite without need for reservations.

I hope this helps with your planning!
