Planning a trip end of april 2015. I am going back and forth on using magic extra MORNING hours at magic kingdom & animal kingdom. We don't have park hopper tickets and are staying at Disney Saratoga Springs. Kids ages 6,9,12. Worth the extra crowds?

    Hi Kathy!

Extra Magic Hours can be a great benefit. On select days at least one theme park is open an hour earlier or up to three hours later for guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. While some feel that Extra Magic Hours can increase the overall crowds at that particular park, it can still work to your advantage.

My children are similar ages as yours, and we find Extra Magic Hour mornings to be very helpful. Many families do not wish to get up early while on their vacation, so even though they are able to enter the park early, many do not. We like to arrive to an Extra Magic Hour Morning 15 minutes prior to park opening, to be one of the first families into the park. I make my FastPass+ selections for rides that I know will have long lines later in the day, and with the Extra Magic Hour we ride other popular attractions for which I do not have a FastPass+.

We are usually able to experience popular attractions with little to no wait at Magic Kingdom between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. when the park begins to get more crowded. This is when we like to have an early lunch, also with little to no waiting, then return to our hotel for a swim and rest. We come back to the park around dinner time and use our FastPass+ selections to ride our favorites! At Animal Kingdom Park, we use the Extra Magic Hour to ride both Kilimanjaro Safari and Expedition Everest before it becomes crowded, but then we may use FastPass+ to ride them again later in the day. I like to plan Animal Kingdom in the middle of my vacation, and use that evening to be a relaxing night by the hotel pool.

I hope this information is helpful as you plan your April vacation. Most Spring Break crowds should be gone by then, so hopefully the crowds will be more moderate.

Wishing you a vacation filled with hours of extra magic!
