We are planning a trip to DW in June 2011 w/ husband, daughter 4, son 17, grandma & myself, grandma and son are staying in the same room together, grandma doesn't want the dining plan but I want my son to have it, can we get just the dining for him?

    Jennifer:

In order to purchase Disney's dining plan, everyone on the reservation must get the plan and you must purchase it for the duration of your stay.  Even if you separated the two rooms into two reservations, both grandma and your son would have to purchase the dining plan if they are listed on the same reservation and in the same room.

Although the dining plan can save a family with children under 10 a considerable amount of money, especially if they want to experience several Character Meals, it may not be the best choice if you have picky eaters in your family, don't like taking time out of the parks, or if grandma isn't a big eater.  If your 17-year-old son eats like a linebacker, you may want to simply consider eating at a buffet once a day as a family but a la carte for your remaining meals--which is still cheaper than everyone going on the dining plan.

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
