Hello! We are planning a trip down in September of 2014. It will be 4 adults and 1 child (3 1/2 years old). We are eligible to stay at Shades of Green and are debating between that and Pop Century since they are similar in price. Any thoughts? Thank you!

    Hi Tricia,

Our family always has to make the big decision of staying at Shades of Green or one of the official Disney Resorts, like Pop Century (our favorite). But as a military member, it's nice to be able to have that option, right? These are the criteria we use to figure out which one would be better for our budget and peace of mind:
    • Price. You said that the prices will be similar for you. After my past promotion, it has been a toss up for us, since the prices go up to reflect your rank. Whenever Walt Disney World has a special offer, whether it's the Armed Forces Salute discount on rooms, or a discount offered to all Guests, I tend to go with the Disney Resort to save even more.
    • Space. This is key! While we love Pop Century, they don't have suites. We are a family of 4, but will be bringing another member to our family soon. Once our new little one turns 3, we won't be able to stay at Pop Century since there won't be enough space for everyone. Check out the family suites at All Star Music to see if they fit within your budget. Everyone will have enough room and you'll still be able to take advantage of being in a Value Resort. If not, I'd go with a suite at Shades of Green.
    • Location. Shades of Green is located near the Deluxe Resorts that use the Monorail. If you plan on spending lots of time at Magic Kingdom with your 3 1/2 year old, then staying closer to the Monorail might be best. Also, if you are a Disney foodie, you'll be close to some of the best Resort restaurants, like 'Ohana. I see that as a plus!

I hope those tips help, Tricia. If you have any more questions, feel free to come back and ask me at any time. Hope to hear from you soon.
