Planning our 1st trip to disneyworld, not really sure where to start. Will be going with our 4 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son. Want the full experience, so thinking a value resort pkg but really want the character dining too.And need transportation.

Hi Sara - for a first-time visitor to Walt Disney World, it definitely can be difficult to figure out where to start.  It sounds as though you are thinking of staying on property, so I'd start out with deciding which resort to stay in.  Of the value resorts, my personal favorite is Pop Century, but depending on your family's preferences, you may want to stay at one of the All-Star resorts.

Once you decide on that, it's a good idea to call Walt Disney World, or go online, and price out your vacation with tickets.  If you are hoping to eat most of your meals on property, I'd suggest that you get the standard dining plan with one table service meal, one quick service meal, and one snack per day.  It offers great value, and you can use the table service credit on character meals.  Book your meals in advance because they do fill up.

As for transportation, if you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, you will get complimentary airport transfers via the Magical Express, and you can take Disney transportation to all of the theme parks.  We never rent a car when we visit Walt Disney World.

I'd also suggest that you get one or two guidebooks so that you can do all of your research in advance.  My two favorites are the Passporter and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Walt Disney World.

I hope that helps!  Have a great vacation!
