Character Dining with Donald Duck
  • On Aug 10, 2019
    Donna from IL Asked

Hello. We are planning a trip to Disney world and we are a little late. It seems there isn’t any character dining available. They are sold out. Is there a chance we could pick up a cancellation? Or should we change our dates? We are a party of 6. Thank

    Hi Donna!

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question! Character Dining is especially popular and does tend to book quickly. It looks like you may be traveling during a holiday week and that will increase demand. Guests do tend to cancel, and so it pays to check availability frequently, even a few times per day. Also, some Guests believe that character meals are only available at breakfast, so don’t forget to search for lunch and dinners as well!

I just took a quick look for Character Dining for a party of 6 during the week of your trip, and while there aren’t a lot of options, I did see a few dinner reservations available, especially if you are willing to dine at less typical times. When using the Disney website to book dining reservations online, under where you choose the date, there is a drop-down menu for “Dining Experience” and you can choose “Character Dining” as an option. This may help you find options more efficiently. You can always book something, even if the time isn't perfect and then if something better opens up you can cancel your first reservation.

If you are unable to find a reservation that works for your family, I would not reschedule an entire trip for that reason. There are so many ways to meet characters in the parks and some you can even reserve with a FastPass+. Make sure you have the My Disney Experience Mobile App downloaded on your phone as you can use it when in the parks to locate character greeting locations. I’m sure a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort can be magical even without Character Dining. Also, Guests who won’t be using their dining reservations must cancel at least 24 hours in advance to avoid paying a penalty, so often things will open up a day or two in advance and you may score a last-minute reservation!

I hope this helps alleviate any worries, Donna. I am sending pixie dust for that perfect Character Dining reservation!
