    Bernadette Asked

Planning a trip to Disney in October. It will be myself, my husband, our 2 kids (5 year old girl and 2 year old boy), and 2 grandmothers. Can you share your tips, tricks and suggestions for a group like this. Thanks

    Hi Bernadette,

I have fond memories of touring with my children and their grandparents at this age. I am so glad they had the opportunity to share this special place together.

The first thing I would say is sit down with the grandmoms and find out what they would like to do. Do you plan on eating every meal together, touring all the time together and what about those souvenirs? When we went with the grandparents, my husband and I decided the schedule and where we were eating.  If grandmoms are computer savvy, ask them for their thoughts on what to do and where to eat. We did run the touring schedule and restaurants by them ahead of time so they could give their thoughts.

We then decided that we would start the day together and tour and eat dinner together. After dinner, we would decide what the evening activities would be as a group.  We also decided we would pay for all the meals and then divide the bill up afterwards. With the dining plans now available, you may not have to worry about splitting a bill. You simply need to talk about it. We also made sure everyone had a list of the dinner reservations so they knew where to meet if we were touring different places.

Since we are Disney Vacation Club members, we stayed at either a one or two bedroom suite depending on the number of grandparents we had with us. It was great to have the kitchen for them to have coffee and breakfast in the morning as well as a separate space to relax and sleep.

As for souvenirs, we let them buy the girls one big item. If grandparents bought a pen or small treat (under $5), we let them enjoy it. We wanted our girls to appreciate the time with their grandparents and not the gift.

Also, we toured too fast. We needed to slow the pace and let them enjoy it. We also rented the ECVs at the parks so they were comfortable.

I hope this helps you have a magical vacation with some very special people!
