Hi, We are planning our 1st trip to Disney this June...I'm thinking of going with the Package Plus Dining Plan, but want to know if it is really worth it, and why? When you break the cost down per person per day it seems very costly. Any help or suggestions?

    Hi Kim,

Planning your first trip to Walt Disney World is so much fun, but there is so much to consider! I'm glad that you came to the Disney Parks Moms Panel for suggestions.

With any Disney Dining Plan, whether the cost is worth it depends on your family. It can be quite cost-effective, if you are sure to use all of your dining credits. Some people forget to eat a meal or two over the course of their trip, and then the cost-effectiveness of the plan is gone. It also depends what you are choosing to eat at the restaurants. If you tend to order the more expensive items, the cost effectiveness goes up. Some people like to have the Disney Dining Plan simply for the convenience of having prepaid for all of your food. There is something magical about not having to turn over cash or a credit card every time you finish a meal!

One way to see if the plan is cost-effective for your family is to cost out a day of meals. The website allears.net has current menus for most Walt Disney World restaurants. Go to allears.net, select "dining", and look to the left of the screen for "The Menus."  Then choose a couple of menus and think about what your family would eat there for a meal. Do this for three meals in one day and see if the price comes out to more or less than the per-day cost of the Disney Dining Plan.

My family tends not to use the Disney Dining Plan. We prefer the freedom of not having to consider what type of dining to visit in order to use up dining credits. We also like to be able to go to a restaurant and order a couple of appetizers but no entree. We like to go have huge meals at signature restaurants without considering how many table service credits they use. This is how my family operates - you have to think about your family.

I hope this information helps you with your decision, Kim. Have a great time planning, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
