We are planning a trip from Australia with a 5 and 7 year old. Where should we stay (Delux) and how long should we stay for? Is there any other tips that an international visitor should know about?

Hi Louise! What a wonderful trip you are planning for your family.  Coming this distance isn't easy to I recommend you stay at least a week as your first day or two will be getting used to the time changes.

If you can stay longer you will find an abundance of great things you can experience beyond the parks.  You can reserve a guided fishing trip, ride in a Richard Petty race car, horseback ride, parasailing, and much much more!  If you can extend your trip beyond the parks this is a great place to have many more magical experiences!

Disney offers great resorts to choose from.  My favorite deluxe resort near the Magic Kingdom would be the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian. Both have great amenities and are located on the monorail making your trips to the Magic Kingdom park quick and easy.  If you want a wonderful deluxe resort that is near to the EPCOT and Hollywood Studios park then my suggestion would be the Yacht of Beach Club resort.  They share a swimming area called Stormalong Bay which is regarded as the best pool area on property.

My best suggestion to international travelers is to not rush into the parks the minute you arrive.  Explore your resort the first day and relax and enjoy some down time. Traveling is stressful and when coming a far distance as you will be doing you will want to be refreshed before heading to the parks.  Get Park Hopper tickets to you can come and go to all the parks each day.  Make your dining reservations as soon as you can (180 days prior) and have a basic itinerary but don't be afraid of altering it as you go.  Book a fireworks or Illuminations cruise one evening and don't forget to enjoy Downtown Disney and a Cirque Du Soleil show!
