We're planning our 3rd trip in Aug.2013 and wondering what restaurants are best for older (8,10 &12) kids? We have adventurous eaters and have done the character meals - looking for something new, including one "special" meal. Thx!

    Hi Heather,

I too have older children who love to have interesting dining experiences. I've taken my kids to Disney's fine dining or "signature" restaurants many times with great success. A great option for you might be Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food here is perfection, offering gourmet items with an interesting African twist. If you think your family might prefer American style fine dining, then Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge is a wonderful option.

Other restaurants that often appeal to older kids are the Sci-Fi Dine-In at Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge, and Ohana at the Polynesian. These all have very fun Disney theming, but without the characters that some older kids might think they are "too cool" for.

You'll also want to consider the dining choice in Epcot's World Showcase. There are fun belly dancers at Restaurant Marrakesh at Morocco and great cook-on-your-table hibachi at Teppan Edo in Japan. Yummy.

For more ideas, you may want to consider heading over to the independent website DisneyFoodBlog.com. Search there for an article called "Ten Tips for Dining with Teens at Walt Disney World." Even though your kids are not quite teens yet, many of the same ideas apply.

    Happy eating!
