Hi - I am planning a third trip to the Disneyland resort, 1st time on property. I decided to do it up! But, now I am faced with trying to determine the pros and cons to Disneyland Hotel vs the Grand. Taking my 8 yr old son and 71 yr old grandma!

    Hi, Molly!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m so happy to hear you’re planning another visit to the Disneyland Resort.

Both of the Disneyland Resort Hotels you mentioned have their own unique benefits. Rooms at the Disneyland Hotel are quite large for standard accommodations. The furnishings are chic and modern with a touch of retro Disneyland charm, and you’ll see nods to Walt Disney and the early days of the theme park in the details and décor. Adding to the Disney magic are carved wooden headboards featuring fiber-optic fireworks that create an in-room light and music show with the flip of a switch! I think the feel of this hotel is quintessentially “Disneyland.”

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the closest to the parks, has a fun Redwood Tree-themed water slide and pool, and features a private entrance into Disney California Adventure Park. Stepping into the gorgeous Arts and Crafts style lobby is like being transported to California in the early 1900s, along with that signature touch of Disney in the meticulously-planned details.

If more hotel room space and a Disney-inspired atmosphere are top priorities for you, the Disneyland Hotel is probably the best choice. However, if you want to be in the center of the action and just a few steps from the parks and the Downtown Disney District (which may make your trip with a child and a senior easier) then I suggest staying at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. No matter which of the report hotels you choose, you’ll be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, which help you make the most of your days in the parks.

I hope this helps you decide, Molly, Please feel free to write back with more questions as your pixie-dusted planning continues!

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
