We're planning on staying at Fort Wilderness Cabins with a 3 and 5 year olds. Does this location have a good swimming pool area/playground for this age? Are the Cabins close to the resort amenities? Thanks!

Wow, what great luck! I just got back home from a stay at the Fort Wilderness Cabins and spent a great deal of time enjoying all the resort has to offer. I was slightly intimidated by the large size of this resort at first, but am now sold and can not wait to stay there again.

There are two pools on grounds. A smaller one near the 2500 block of cabins and the larger pool is located near the middle of the resort at the Meadow Recreation Area. Depending on your vacation dates, the Meadow pool is currently undergoing refurbishment and is expected to be re-opened in late March. I can't wait to see what the changes look like as there is talk of slides and a kids splash zone.. Near the Meadow swimming pool, you will find a trading post with general supplies, a rental stop for fishing, canoeing and biking as well as archery and shuffleboard. This spot is also the home of Chip and Dale's nightly campfire sing a long and movie which is free.

The back portion of the resort is known as the Settlement area. Here you will find a boat dock, sand beach with volleyball nets, a lounge and restaraunt, arcade, a playground (which could be the best on all of Disney's property), a riding stable, and gift shop. From the Settlement area you can also enjoy carriage and wagon rides for a small fee. The Hoop Dee Doo Revue and Mickey's Backyard BBQ shows are also found at the Settlement.

The cabins are located to the left side of the resort and the campsites to the middle and right. The smaller pool is very close to some of the cabins but the majority of the activities are not within walking distance of the cabins. However, internal buses are available to move around the resort. We found the internal buses run quite often and the wait to be surprisingly short. Other options for moving around includes the rental of golf carts or bicycles, or many bring their own bikes, scooters or carts .

I am confident your family will have a fantastic time there!
