We are planning on staying at the cabins at Fort Wilderness in December. Can you explain the restaurant/dining experience? I see there is a restaurant, is there a quick-service/food court? Easy to get to? And are the cabins decorated for Christmas?

The Fort Wilderness cabins are a great choice for a holiday stay, Elizabeth.  They're so cozy and rustic!  Unfortunately, there is no food court at Fort Wilderness.  There are a number of dining options, though, including the Trail's End Restaurant which serves a buffet for breakfast and dinner and a la carte for lunch.  You could also enjoy dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue one night.  They have a special version of the show during the holidays.  If you're looking for just a quick bite, you could visit Crockett's Tavern for pizza or nachos.

The distance between the cabins and dining areas can be a bit of a hike.  You have the option of renting a golf cart or using the internal bus system.  We found the golf cart to be a hoot; it really added a fun dimension to our stay at Fort Wilderness (and definitely eased transportation as well!).

The cabins aren't necessarily decorated for Christmas.  Some guests do opt to bring their own decorations to add a festive touch to their homes away from home.  During our holiday trip a few years ago we did a sleigh ride around the campsites at Fort Wilderness after dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo and I can assure you that those campers know how to put up a holiday display!  That event was definitely the one that propelled me into the Christmas spirit.
