Planning a 3 night, 4 day January trip to Disney World with a 13 and 14 year old. Live near Disneyland in California and visit often. Want to use our limited time to experience those things that make Disney World special. Suggestions?

I'm a California native myself.  Growing up, my family made countless trips to Disneyland, so I'm well aware of the similarities and differences between the two resorts.  Given that your trip is only 4 days long, you won't have time to see everything.  Hopefully though, these suggestions will help you to discover a love for Disneyland's Floridian sister resort!

As you probably know, WDW's Magic Kingdom is very similar to Disneyland.  Many of the other attractions that can be found at California Adventure are scattered throughout the other three parks (Soarin' at Epcot, Toy Story Midway Mania & Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios, It's Tough To Be a Bug at Animal Kingdom). Considering the fact you can visit those attractions in California, I'd recommend that you focus much of your time at Animal Kingdom & Epcot; I'd plan to spend a full day at each.  The World Showcase at Epcot is truly unique to WDW, and while it doesn't offer much in the way of rides, the entertainment and restaurants there are fabulous.  Be sure to make time to see the candy lady at the Japan pavilion; she is amazing!  There are also some very interesting activities in the Innoventions buildings in the Future World section of Epcot.

At Animal Kingdom you'll want to head to Expedition Everest if your kids enjoy thrill rides.  Kilimanjaro Safari is also awesome as are the Festival of the Lion King and Nemo: the Musical shows.

Outside of the parks, I would suggest a visit to the Boardwalk resort area for a surrey bike rental.  The Hoop Dee Doo musical revue is also a WDW must do that can't be found elsewhere.  In fact, in order to gain a true appreciation of all WDW has to offer, dining in the unique themed restaurants should be included on your to-do list.  Due to space limitations, I've only scratched the surface here, but hopefully you'll be able to explore and find a whole new world of Disney magic to enjoy!
