I am planning a 7-night cruise in December 2011 with my family. My concern is about the room. I want to get a room with a verandah...however we are traveling with a VERY FAST and CLEVER 3 year old. I worried about safty. Should we get the Navigator Ver??

    Hi Tiffanie,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  I would have asked this same question a few years back, and I will admit that I considered not cruising for this same reason.  Now, however I can honestly tell you that I felt very safe and secure with my little ones in our verandah cabin.

My first line of defense was the lock on the door.  The lock is located near the top of the door making it impossible for a little one to reach.  Secondly, the verandah railings are covered with plexi-glass - so there is no way for a little one to slip through, under or around the railing.  The railing itself is higher than I expected it to be, and my little ones would have a very tough time pulling themselves up (especially because of the plexi-glass).  You can also ask your stateroom host or hostess to remove the chairs and table from your verandah if you think it would be a safety issue for them.

Personally, I think having a navigators verandah would lend itself to more curiosity for the kids because they won't be able to see (and may want to climb to do so).  At least with the standard verandah they can look through the plexi-glass which will eliminate the need to climb.

Good luck with your decision, I hope this helps!
