We are planning to be at the Magic Kingdom on Thanksgiving day would you suggest coming early and not leaving the park if I am able to secure a reservation at the Liberty Tree Tavern? Not sure if Magic Kingdom would fill to capacity that day.

Hi Michelle!  Figuring out park crowds is one of the most difficult things for a guest to deal with in planning their vacation.  My family for years spent Thanksgiving week at Walt Disney World and although the Magic Kingdom never closed due to reaching capacity it is possible on a holiday.  We found that the Friday and Saturday after this day were more crowded then the actual Thanksgiving day.

I would certainly try to get a reservation for Liberty Tree Tavern. What a great place to have the traditional meal and enjoy the great historical atmosphere surrounding you. Check with your resort cast that morning about the park capacity. They will be able to tell you to what degree the park is filling up and if you should head over. When a park closes it initially will close to day guests and resort guests will still be able to enter.  The closing is often not for the entire day but for a few hours until enough guests have departed so they can open it up again.

If you wish to enjoy many of the attractions that day then it would be a good idea to head there fairly early so you can avoid the longer lines that will form later in the day.  We often go early and race around to do some of the more popular rides and then take an early lunch, head to Tom Sawyer's Island for some slow restful time, take in the shows in front of the castle and the afternoon parade, and then have an early dinner. If we are really energetic we will stay to the end to see Wishes and the Electric Light Parade but if not we just plan for those on a separate evening when we just come to see those two great events.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving magical holiday at Disney!
