Three Generations Aboard Ship

Hi moms! Planning a land and sea trip Fall 2015, wondered if you can tell me what time is the earliest flight I should be booking on disembarking day. Will 10:30 be too early? Thank you!

    Ahoy, Rachel -

Welcome back to the Moms Panel and thanks for cruising in with another great question. Land and Sea vacations are my kind of vacations too. I think your kids will surely be thankful for this awesome trip -- and you deserve the Best Mom Award from your family, for handling all the logistics and trip planning for everyone (maybe all the packing too!). I think you can imagine the tight hugs that go with that now :-).

Disembarkation day is still meant to be enjoyed on the Disney Cruise ship... though tears are optional as you slowly walk past the atrium to make your way to the exits. If you are arriving at Port Canaveral, the ship will likely be cleared by the Port Authorities at around 7:30 am. I have seen very many families dash out of the ship at this time WITH all their luggage in tow, plus a stroller or two. It's a stressful scene, as everyone still needs to get through US Customs and make their way out to the curbside, to board transportation to the airport. The MCO airport is still about 45 minutes to an hour away depending on traffic. And there are usually lines at the security gates (sorry - no FastPass+ there!).

I would suggest a flight that leaves no earlier than 1pm, to allow you some wiggle time. You might need it especially if you are traveling with kids. This way, you can leisurely enjoy your sit down breakfast and also say your goodbyes to your serving team, who have been with you throughout your voyage. Once you exit the ship and pickup your luggage at baggage claim, you'll go through US Customs and then exit to the ground transportation area. If you take advantage of the Disney Cruise Line ground transfers to take you to the airport, you can board the motor coaches and be whisked away to the airport... and possibly have extra time just in case anyone needs an extra potty break, an extra snack or a 'boo - we're going home' picture.

I hope this helps, Rachel! Happy planning!
