We are planning to go to Tusker House our first night there. Do we have to have a park ticket? We bought a hopper pass but only for 6 days. We do not want to use it just to have dinner after we arrive.

You would need a park ticket to have dinner at the Tusker House. This restaurant is located in the Animal Kingdom, and you need to use park admission to get there.

We made this mistake once, we arrived at WDW in the late afternoon, unpacked, and went to dinner at the Coral Reef at Epcot. After dinner we were tired so we just went back to the hotel to go to bed. Later that night we realized that we had used an entire day of park tickets just for a one-hour meal. My husband said that was the most expensive meal he ever fed our kids.

Now when we're arriving late in the day, we usually plan to have dinner at one of the resorts. No admission is required for this. If you're looking to put your kids in the Disney mood, a character meal is always a great choice for a first-night activity. Chef Mickey's is a classic character dinner; you might try to get a reservation there instead.
