Hi we're planning our first WDW vacation with our 11 year old son. (15\02\2013 - 22\02\2013.) I want to plan everything right. We're staying at the Port Orleans. I don't know where to start my planning (dining, visiting, etc...) And Harry Potter is a must..

Hi Stephanie!  Your big Disney vacation is coming up quickly so it is time to get some plans in place. It looks like you will have a nice long visit which will enable you to visit all four of the major parks at Walt Disney World. I suggest you spend at least one full day in each: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. It is sometimes hard to predict what an eleven year old will find more interesting so once you have experienced each park you can then return to those that he would like to explore more.

I always suggest guests not rush into the parks on the day they arrive. Instead use that time to get to know your resort and the amenities it offers and relax with a nice dinner in a resort or Downtown Disney. Then you will be fresh to start off early in the morning to your first park.  Pick a park for each day and look at the dining possibilities and make a reservation. You can do this all on line at www.disneyworld.com. You can check the park hours in advance to see if one will stay open longer or open earlier to get the most out of your day and your ticket. I like to plan a couple of park days and then a day of relaxation whether it be at your resort, Downtown Disney, or a water park. There are so many wonderful opportunities for fun right on Disney property to enjoy such as boating, golfing, water sports, and of course shopping!

Since it is impossible to predict park crowds simply pick one that suits you for each day and make dining reservations to coordinate with that plan. Don't worry about trying to out guess what the other guests will be doing as it is impossible!  And don't forget there are many great restaurants at the Disney resorts to try and we often like to do that for dinners.

We are here to help as you have more questions!
