Hi! We are planning our first WDW trip for next year. My MIL is coming and she is highly sensitive to rubber and is worried about the magic bands. I know there is a card but was wondering if there was any differences in what the bands can do vs the card?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Heidi ~

I am so excited that you are planning your first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort! I'm also thrilled that you have come to us for answers and we are honored to assist you!

It is great that you are planning ahead for your Mother-In-Law. MagicBands are made of a non-latex hypoallergenic material. Since she is highly sensitive to rubber, you may not want to risk it and the card may be the way to go.

You can use your MagicBand or card to:
    * Unlock the door of your Disney Resort hotel room.
    * Enter theme and water parks (with valid admission).
    * Check in at FastPass+ entrances.
    * Connect Disney PhotoPass images to your account.
    * Charge food and merchandise purchases to your Disney Resort hotel room (only available during your hotel stay).

The biggest difference is that a MagicBand can also unlock special personalized surprises throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. While I don't know for sure, perhaps MagicBands activate these because they are typically worn on your wrist and can more easily activate the surprises.

You could think about purchasing a lanyard and a lanyard pouch for your Mother-In-Law to keep her card in. That way it will be easily accessible when she needs it. You can purchase those at many of the merchandise locations at Walt Disney World. You could also order her one online prior to your trip on shopDisney or on the Shop Disney Parks app.

Please feel free to visit us again with all of your planning questions. We are hEAR for you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
