We are planning our first visit to WDW in 2017, our kids will be 5 and 7. Our available dates are: June 10 to August 12 (staying just 7 nights). In which dates do you recommend us to travel? I will like to avoid crowds =)

    Hi Nancy,

Nice to see the Show Me State represented on the Moms Panel. I know you must be very excited to plan your first trip, so I want to be honest with you.  Your selected dates fall right in the middle of peak summer travel season, and you will not be able to avoid the crowds. Since you are planning for 2017, is there any way your dates can be flexible?  If so, I would recommend any season besides summer to travel to the Walt Disney World Resort.  Winter and autumn are optimal times to plan your visit as long as you avoid major holidays.

If you must travel during the summer season, here a a few pointers:
    • Stay on property at a Walt Disney World resort so that you easily travel between the parks and your hotel, for cooling off in the afternoon at the resort pools.  Summer is VERY hot in Florida, and you'll need a break in the afternoon from the heat and crowds.
    • Easywdw.com has a touring plan to make the most of your visit with park recommendations for each day of your vacation to avoid the most crowded parks.
    • Take advantage of the 180 day booking window for Advance Dining Reservations.  With lots of folks traveling in the summer, the popular restaurants will book quickly.
    • Fast Pass+ will be a must to avoid long lines at your favorite attractions.
    • My fellow panelists have provided some excellent suggestions for things to pack for a summer vacation and ways to keep cool.

Nancy, we'll be here every step of the way as you plan that magical first trip for your family.  We'd  love to help in any way we can, so please come back and visit.

Walt Disney captured my heart as a little girl and has not let go since. As a parent and grandparent, I have been to the Walt Disney World Resort with children of all ages, and also as empty nesters. I would like to share my years of experience so that you are able to start your own tradition of Walt Disney World memories, just as I have. Learn More About Leanne
