We are planning our first trip with our son in January. He will be 20 months. My mother will also be joining us and celebrating her 60th birthday. Would the Polynesian luau or the California Grill be better for her birthday celebration, with our toddler

Jennifer the best part of a Disney vacation with young children is that all restaurants are equipped and ready to handle all ages of children!  The Spirit of Aloha and the California Grill are two very different dining experiences.  The Spirit of Aloha is designed after a traditional luau of the islands and will have a show during that time.  If I was to plan a birthday celebration I would most likely not choose that but instead a location such as California Grill where you can order what you want individually as well as surprise the birthday guest with a nice cake at the end.  The cast will most likely also make it special through-out the meal for you.  You can call the cake hotline to discuss the options for your cake at 407-827-2253 or most restaurants will have a small vanilla or chocolate cake on hand to deliver table side if you ask when you check in at the podium.  Have a wonderful celebration!
