Mom With Kids After Run

I am planning our first trip for 2011. My son will be 5 and my daughter 4. Do you think May or October is a better time of year to go and why?

Hi, Lisa!  Both May and October are great times of the year to go to Walt Disney World.  Except for Memorial Day weekend and Columbus Day weekend, the parks are generally at low season.  Spring break is usually over by May, and kids are back in school by October, making the crowds a bit more manageable.

If it were up to me, I would choose October.  I love the weather in October in Orlando.  The humidity from the summer seems to be on the way out by then, but it's still warm and wonderful for swimming or the water parks.  I also love the events in October!  The Magic Kingdom is host to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party on select nights in September and October; and EPCOT celebrates the International Food and Wine Festival.  You can eat your way around the World Showcase, sampling specialties from the various countries.  I like to tell my girls is a lesson in international culture, but it's really a darned good excuse to eat French, Chinese, Japanese, and German all over the course of an hour!

You can't go wrong with either month, so whichever works best for your family would be fine.  I just really enjoy the special events October has to offer!

    Happy planning!
