We are planning our first trip in May, 2017. We want to bring our autistic grandson. Are there accommodations to allow him to enjoy the visit or would it be better to not bring him? He will be 5 then and LOVES Mickey but has meltdowns with excess noise.

    Hello, Cindy!

First visits are always magical! As a mom to a son with special needs, I appreciate that our family can enjoy all the magic that Walt Disney World Resort has to offer.

Services for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities is a great page to find services available to your family. From information about purchasing tickets to what to pack, you will find lots of helpful information. Be sure to download A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to find specifics on touring strategies and sensory information.

Once you arrive on property, visit any Guest Relations Lobby to request Disability Assistance Service (DAS) for your grandson. This service is designed for Guests whose disability prevents them from waiting in a regular queue and works in tandem with FastPass+.

Our family often makes advanced dining reservations at off times to reduce crowds and noise. You are welcome to bring noise canceling headphones, a favorite toy or snacks to help alleviate any anxiety. Also, consider dining with Mickey Mouse and Pals so your grandson can interact with characters on his terms.

My space is limited, and I hope these suggestions help. Please visit us again with other questions you may have.

    Happy Planning!
