We are planning our first trip to Disney October 2015. We have twin boys. They will be 6. One has autism. He is not great with long lines. Any recommendations? We would like to stay at Disney. Resorts you would recommend for active boys?

    Hi Amy ~

Planning a first trip to Disney World is super exciting! Be sure to pick up free "1st Visit" buttons for your family at a Disney Resort Hotel or any Guest Relations location. You never know what pixie dust will come your way.

Disney is committed to assisting Guests with Cognitive Disabilities. They have put together A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (see link shown above) that will give you some information that may help you before and during your trip.

Request a Disability Access Service Card (DAS) for your son by going to Guest Relations at any of the theme parks. Here are some details explaining how the DAS works. I've also included a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the DAS.

Also take advantage of Disney FastPass+ service (FP+). Here are some details of how FP+ currently works.

I would recommend Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside. It is smaller and quieter. It offers a great pool and other recreational options including a playground, fishing, biking, and horse drawn carriage rides. You can also take a water taxi to Downtown Disney.

Please feel free to visit us again with all of your planning questions. We are hEAR for you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
