We are planning our first trip to Disney for October and I am trying to find out which restaurant would be best for young children. My son is 9 months and my daughter is 2 1/2. We would love to eat with the characters but also want to be age-appropriate.

    Hi Renee,

Congratulations on your upcoming trip!  When my children were very young, we found the character buffet restaurants to be very convenient, because they have a huge variety of selections, and I always found it easy to find something that would make my kids happy.  We loved Chef Mickeys (for either breakfast or dinner) and Play n' Dine at Hollywood Studios (for breakfast and lunch) when my kids were small.  Chef Mickey's currently features Mickey, Goofy, Chip & Dale for breakfast, and Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Donald and Minnie for Dinner.  Play n' Dine features JoJo and Goliath and several Little Einsteins.  Both establishments have extremely "family-fun" atmospheres, where your kids should feel very comfortable.  The characters circle the restaurant and visit each table, allowing plenty of time for pictures and autographs.

If either of your children is frightened by the characters, you can let them know that you would prefer them not to visit your table, and would rather enjoy them from a bit of a distance.

    Have a wonderful vacation!
