Planning a first trip to disney! Still deciding when, Sept or Oct? Any advice you can give me for planning a magical vacation (planned magic your way with dining plan)? Also what is best to use fastpass on?

Hello, Andrea! You've got some great questions. I bet if you asked every one of us here on the Moms Panel you'd get a different response to each of your questions. I know that my Moms Panel friend Ana F swears by going in September during Labor Day holiday. She says that its still nice weather and not as crowded. If it were me, I would choose late September or early October because I love Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. It's a really fun specially ticketed event that happens on select nights and is a highlight of our trips. This year there is a new Hocus Pocus themed stage show called 'Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltactular', and I will not miss it for the world!

To add some magic to our vacations, we usually plan one Character Dining Experience each day. We love getting to hug and play with the characters and this way you save a lot of time waiting around in lines in the parks. We also add a couple of 'extras' for each trip. For our next trip we have the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage planned. It's a cruise led by a pirate over Seven Seas Lagoon. You get to see Captain Hook and Mr. Smee along with a chance to enjoy the breathtaking fireworks without having to push your way through crowds of people. Look under the "Things to Do" tab on the Walt Disney World planning site, click Events and Tours and see if anything strikes your fancy. Another thing that you could do is end the night with a dessert party. I recommend the IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party.

FastPass+ selections are best used on attractions that have high waits times and are based on your interests. For Magic Kingdom I suggest Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Ana & Elsa at Princess Fairytale Hall, or any of the 'Mountains'. Unfortunately I am running out of space, so for a more detailed FastPass+ strategy come back with another question. See ya real soon!

Meet the Panelist: Sarah, Indiana

I am a recent graduate from Ball State University and mother to my 5-year-old son. We love all things Disney and when we aren’t watching Disney films or planning our next vacation, we love to go to touring Disney shows. I also love to cook, listen to music, read books, and paint. With my experience planning vacations and navigating the parks from a single parent’s perspective, I hope to be able to add a little “pixie dust” to your vacation! Learn More About Sarah
