We are planning our first family trip to Disney with our 2 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son, both celebrate birthdays in the weeks following. Should we stay at Art of An. Cars family suite or closer to Magic Kingdom? Ideas for special birthday surprises?

    Hi Marcella:

This sounds like a wonderful vacation full of celebration.  I think the Art of Animation family suite sounds perfect for your family.  With younger children, you will likely spend most of your time at Magic Kingdom, so I suppose it would be more convenient to stay on the monorail, like at Contemporary, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian, or a boat ride away at Wilderness Lodge.  However, those are all Deluxe Resorts, so you should expect to pay for the convenience and extra amenities.  If you are interested in the Cars family suite and savings of a Value Resort, then Art of Animation should be just right for you.  Although you won't be on the monorail, you'll be a direct bus ride away from Magic Kingdom and can spend the extra money on souvenirs for your birthday children.

Remember to stop by City Hall at Magic Kingdom, or at Guest Relations at other Parks, and pick up birthday and first visit buttons.  Many Cast Members will go out of their way to greet your children with a kind gesture. I would also arrange a special character meal dining reservation.  You usually cannot go wrong with a character breakfast at Chef Mickey's.  And it sounds as if your birthday children are perfect ages for buying them balloons or even popcorn as you walk down Main Street.

    Enjoy your vacation.
