I am planning our first family trip to disney in april (w/2x3yr olds & 6yr old) and overwhelmed by choices. Any tips or advise?

    Hi Lesley,

Planning your first Disney trip can be a little overwhelming, but it's also very exciting!

The first thing you need to know that some first timers don't realize is that Disney World is huge!  It's really the size of a city.  You can't simply walk from park to park; you must rely on internal transportation or rent a car during your stay.

Having said that, there are some resorts that are within walking distance or have super easy access to at least one part.  These are usually the deluxe resorts on property.  If your budget allows, I recommend staying at one of these.  I imagine with two 3 year olds you'll want to head back to your hotel sometime during the day for a nap or rest.  Deluxe resorts allow you to do that without using too much travel time.

The Polynesian is a great resort for families with small children.  It's a short monorail ride to the Magic Kingdom.  It's also within walking distance of the Transportation and Ticket Center, a hub that will get you directly to the other parks.  There' a wonderfully themed pool, sandy beaches for building sand castles (no swimming), and great restaurants.  Plus, the rooms in this resort are slightly larger than in other deluxe resorts.

Once you've made your resort choice, you'll need to decide on tickets.  Our family likes to purchase the Park Hopper tickets.  We start our day in one park & then "hop" to another after nap time.  The water fun and more add on option probably isn't worth it for your family, unless you're traveling during a really hot season and absolutely have to do some water parks.  I think your little ones will be happy with the resort pool.

Be sure to come back for advice on dining.  We're happy to help you plan a magical vacation!
