We are planning our 1st family vacation to Disney w/ our son who will be 19 mths old. This is his 1st big trip & we are really excited. Does anyone have any travel suggestions w/ flights, transportation @ parks, dinning & the best parks to go to? T

    Hi Kylie,

I'm so excited for your family! Just think of the magical memories your family will be making on your upcoming trip.  I hope you have your camera ready.

Plan to have an extra set of clothes, some food, and a favorite blanket or toy at the ready in your carry-on bag when you fly.  Hopefully your son will be unaffected by the change in cabin pressure as the plane ascends and descends but if not, it's good to have something on hand to distract him.  Don't worry; your flight won't be that long.  You'll be in Orlando in no time.

Expect to spend plenty of time in the Magic Kingdom during your stay.  Although all four parks have attractions that will appeal to your toddler, the Magic Kingdom is my favorite for very young children.  Follow your son's lead.  If he wants to see the characters, then do that!  At your son's age, my nephew loved to sit and look at the fountains throughout the parks and resorts.  Be flexible in your schedule so that you can take time to enjoy whatever your son wishes to do.  Fantasyland is a great place to start in the Magic Kingdom.

Plan at least one character dining experience.  It's a fun way to meet several Disney characters while you dine.  The Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's are excellent choices for toddlers.  Advance dining reservations are typically necessary so call (407) WDW-DINE to make your reservations as far as 180 days in advance of your trip.

Finally, stay on your son's schedule for sleep whenever possible.  If he naps most days, plan to take a break mid-day so that he can rest as usual.  Everyone will have a happier trip if they are well rested.

Let us know if you need any additional advice as you plan your magical first trip.  We'd be happy to help!

PS.  Bring a stroller; I guarantee you'll need one.
