Planning 1st ever cruise in 10/2011 (w/ WDW combo) 4 day Bahama cruise on Dream (2 adults, kids age 13 & 6). Trying to decide on oceanview vs. verandah and best deck location (cost vs. "wow") & what is difference btwn plexiglass & w

    Hi Andrea,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  Having sailed in both ocean view and verandah (plexi-glass and solid wall) staterooms, my first preference is always a verandah - however if the choice was solid-wall verandah or ocean view....I would take the ocean view instead.  The solid wall is a nice choice if all you want is the fresh air, but I choose a verandah for the view.  I want to be able to sit in my stateroom and relax and enjoy the view (not possible with a solid wall, because you need to stand up to see over the railing).

Now although verandah would typically be my first choice, I've booked a cruise on the Dream next year and opted for the ocean view.  I did this for a few reasons, first of all cost.  It certainly costs less to cruise in an ocean view versus a verandah.  Secondly, it's on the Dream!  I think I would have slept in the engine room as long as I got a spot on this ship next year.  This ship will be all about WOW, and I think there will be so much to see, do and explore that the cabin will not be the focal point that is has been on our other "relaxation" vacations.

As for location, since this ship doesn't sail until January 2011, we don't have any reports on specific room locations yet.  Typically I would suggest a mid deck, somewhere in the mid-aft of the ship.  This is typically where you will feel the least amount of motion.

It's also worth noting, if you want to save even more money you could opt for an inside cabin.  Although these cabins do not have a window - they do feature a Virtual Porthole which is a "fake" window with a screen that will broadcast actual real-time footage of the the outside from your stateroom location.  Simply amazing if you ask me, and a great way to get that ocean view feel for the inside stateroom price!
